Paul Pogba's comeback story at Monaco has been overshadowed by fresh misfortune. According to Nice-Matin, the 33-year-old French midfielder injured his left thigh during Monaco's pre-season training camp at St George's Park in England. According to the report, Pogba suddenly stopped during a possession drill with the ball, cried out in pain and collapsed to the ground; treated by the medical staff, he limped to the bench before being strapped up and leaving the pitch accompanied by two members of staff.
It's recalled that Pogba, a 2018 World Cup winner, joined Monaco as a free agent last summer in an emotional ceremony, breaking down in tears as he signed his contract. However, his time at the club has since been described as turning into a nightmare; the player made just six appearances for Monaco last season, totalling only 115 minutes on the pitch. Having started only once, against FC Metz, throughout the season, Pogba suffered an ankle injury in the autumn, followed by a serious calf injury.
It's noted that Pogba, who received an 18-month doping ban in 2023 and has been working to rebuild his career since, has a contract with the club running until June 2027. It's recalled that Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro had previously acknowledged that the plan put in place for the player had not worked as expected, with this latest injury set to delay Pogba's return to the pitch once again.
