According to Sky Sport Italia, Pep Guardiola has officially rejected the offer to become Italy's national team head coach. Guardiola's statement was clear: "I'm honoured to be linked with the Italy national team, thank you. But I don't feel ready."

This rejection came at the most intense moment of the process. Coming immediately after FIGC president Giovanni Malago revealed days earlier that "exceptions" could be made on salary, and after it emerged that Paolo Maldini and Leonardo had flown to Barcelona for direct talks with Guardiola, the timing underlines just how definitive the decision is.

Guardiola's stance was, in fact, nothing new. According to an earlier Yahoo Sports report, Guardiola had already dismissed national team speculation following his departure from Manchester City, saying: "I don't feel like I'm missing anything mentally. I started coaching when I was 37 and everything in my life has been connected to football. Now I want to discover life and be happy doing things that aren't related to football."

This development points to a new phase in Italy's search for a head coach. The rejection comes at a time when Andrea Pirlo has already emerged as the ideal candidate in Italy's search, and Carlo Ancelotti has stated his intention to remain with Brazil; the federation is now expected to decide between Pirlo and Roberto Mancini.
