Poland Beats USA to Retain VNL Title!

The 2026 Men's Volleyball Nations League (VNL) final, held at the Ningbo Beilun Sports and Arts Center in China, witnessed a breathtaking encounter. Defending champions Poland successfully retained their title after a spectacular five-set showdown, defeating the United States 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-27, 25-23, 15-10). With this glorious victory, Poland secured the prestigious trophy for the third time in their history, adding to their successes in 2023 and 2025.

Although the first set saw a tightly contested battle, Poland's Wilfredo Leon stepped up with crucial attacks, allowing his team to take the lead 25-21. In the second set, the Americans leveled the match thanks to Jake Hanes' scoring efforts (23-25). The third set delivered massive excitement, as the USA claimed it in overtime 27-25 to go up 2-1. Refusing to give up, Poland recovered in the fourth set. By showing dominance in blocking during critical moments, they won it 25-23, pushing the match to a decisive tie-breaker.

Reflecting a true champion's spirit in the fifth and final set, Poland widened the gap behind a serving run by setter Marcin Komenda. They comfortably won the set 15-10 to claim the championship.

Polish outside hitter Tomasz Fornal, who finished with 15 points, was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2026 VNL for his outstanding performance. Kamil Semeniuk led the Polish scorers with 17 points, while Leon added another 15. For the USA, Jake Hanes tallied 21 points and Matthew Anderson added 20, but it wasn't enough to prevent defeat. The USA had to settle for a silver medal for the fourth time in as many VNL finals played. Earlier, Slovenia captured the bronze medal.
