President Erdoğan's Referee Summit: Focus on Gündoğdu

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted the presidents and board members of the locomotive forces of Turkish football—Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Trabzonspor—at the Presidential Complex. It was learned that the main agenda behind the scenes of this critical summit, which made a broad impact in the football community, was the increasing referee controversies in recent weeks and the Central Referee Board (MHK) Chairman, Ferhat Gündoğdu. Controversial referee decisions given since the beginning of the season in the Trendyol Super League, non-standard applications in the VAR system, and escalating tension have exhausted the patience of the clubs. The presidents of the four major clubs requested this meeting to express their serious dissatisfaction with the current MHK administration and especially Ferhat Gündoğdu's management approach in a united voice.

During the reception, club executives emphasized in detail that gross refereeing mistakes damage the sense of justice in the league, greatly harm the brand value of football, and create irreparable outrage among millions of fans. It is stated that the presidents, who have been consulting on this issue for a long time at the Clubs Union meetings, conveyed their demands for the construction of a brand new, more transparent, reliable, fair, and merit-based refereeing system in Turkish football to the highest state authorities. In this stormy period where Ferhat Gündoğdu's resignation or dismissal is spoken out loud in the football public, it seems highly probable that radical changes will occur on the TFF and MHK fronts following this historic meeting.
