PSG make their move for Zion Suzuki: talks begin

A giant name has entered the picture regarding the future of Zion Suzuki, one of the standout goalkeepers of the World Cup. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, PSG have expressed interest in Parma's 23-year-old Japanese shot-stopper; negotiations are said to be underway and progressing rapidly. Although no official bid has yet been submitted, the French giants are reported to be viewed as the most likely destination at present.

Suzuki's star shone at the World Cup. In Japan's journey, which saw them finish second in their group and reach the Round of 16 before ending with an honourable 2-1 defeat to Brazil, the young goalkeeper captured Europe's attention at the first major tournament of his career. Despite reduced playing time last season at Parma due to a hand injury, Suzuki featured in 22 matches and kept six clean sheets.

The race, meanwhile, is a crowded one. Aston Villa, searching for a successor to Emiliano Martínez, who is nearing a departure, view Suzuki as ideal for that role; Leeds United have made enquiries and, according to reports, have already had one offer rejected. Juventus had also placed the young goalkeeper on their list, but the Italian giants are said to have lost their enthusiasm with PSG's entry into the race. Parma, who need sales for their financial balance, are reported to expect a fee in the €30-35 million range and have already signed goalkeeper Giovanni Daffara as a contingency.

Born in Newark (USA) to a Ghanaian father and a Japanese mother, Suzuki joined Parma from Sint-Truiden for around €10 million in 2024. On PSG's side, despite Matvey Safonov's status as first choice and the presence of Lucas Chevalier, this move is viewed as a medium-term investment opportunity for the future. The course of the transfer will become clearer in the coming days.
