Real Madrid Sign Diomande for €140 Million

The months-long saga surrounding Yan Diomande, which even sparked a public disagreement between two prominent transfer journalists, has finally reached its official conclusion. According to Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg, RB Leipzig and Real Madrid have agreed a deal for the Ivorian winger. Plettenberg wrote: "Big breakthrough! Real Madrid and Leipzig are on the verge of completing the transfer of Yan Diomande. The guaranteed fee is €125 million. With realistic bonuses included, the package is expected to reach €135 million, while the overall deal could rise to €140 million if all difficult-to-achieve bonuses are met."

The 19-year-old will become the most expensive signing in Real Madrid's history with this move, surpassing the previous record fees paid for Jude Bellingham and Eden Hazard. His former club Leganes is set to receive around 5% of the transfer profit as part of the agreement made when the player moved to Leipzig. Diomande has now been given the green light to travel to Madrid for his medical, bringing the process closer to an official signing.

Diomande, who delivered an outstanding campaign for Leipzig last season with 13 goals and nine assists in 36 appearances and started all four of Ivory Coast's matches at the 2026 World Cup, chose Real Madrid despite interest from PSG and Liverpool. Jose Mourinho is said to be counting on Diomande to solve the right-wing problem that has plagued Real Madrid over the past two trophyless seasons.
