Reunited at Real Madrid: Mourinho and Khedira

An emotional reunion for the football world took place at Real Madrid. According to Marca, Sami Khedira has returned to the Bernabéu years later as assistant coach on José Mourinho's staff. This reunion between the two became official with their first training session held as part of pre-season preparations.

The 39-year-old former player wore the Real Madrid shirt between 2010 and 2015. Khedira's transfer to Real Madrid from VfB Stuttgart at the time was personally carried out by José Mourinho; in this context, the pair's collaboration in this new chapter also reflects a strong bond dating back years. Khedira began joining the club's pre-season preparations at the start of July.

Having earned 77 caps for the Germany national team and won the 2014 World Cup, Khedira's playing career was filled with success. Winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup under Mourinho during his time at Real Madrid, the experienced figure also won a Champions League title during Carlo Ancelotti's tenure as manager.

This role marks Khedira's first experience on a coaching staff. Having worked as a television pundit and on FIFA's development projects following his retirement from playing in 2021, the former player is reported to hold coaching qualifications. Alongside Khedira, names such as João Tralhão, Antonio Dias, Pedro Machado, Roberto Merila and Nuno Santos also form part of the coaching staff built by Mourinho. How this staff will perform during Real Madrid's preparations for the new season will be followed with interest.
