Roma's Target: Destiny Udogie

AS Roma have approached Tottenham in their search for an Italian addition to their defence. According to the report, the Giallorossi have made initial contact with the entourage of the north London club's 23-year-old Italian left-back Destiny Udogie. It's recalled that Udogie, who joined Tottenham from Udinese for around £15 million in the summer of 2022 and has a contract running until 2030, struggled for consistency last season due to four separate injuries.

According to the report, Andrew Robertson's free transfer to Tottenham has further intensified competition at left-back, deepening Udogie's concerns about securing regular playing time. It's noted that for Roma to complete this move, they would first need to part with one of their young centre-backs, either Daniele Ghilardi or Jan Ziolkowski, with the club's defensive planning in the coming weeks said to depend on offers received for those two players.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham have not currently left any opening for Udogie's departure, with the club reluctant to sell the player. It's recalled that Udogie's agent had previously stated the player was wanted by all the major Serie A clubs, but that they had been hesitant to invest in him. With Fiorentina having also shown interest last June in a move described as a "difficult negotiation," it's emphasised that Roma have now formally entered the race for Udogie with this latest development.
