Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen has once again made headlines in the LeBron James comparison debate. Appearing as a guest on Patrick Bet-David's podcast, Pippen was asked who an NBA owner would choose as the ideal player to build a franchise around: himself or LeBron James. Pippen responded: "I don't know... Do you want individual accolades or do you want championships? Because I didn't chase mine."
Pippen, who won six NBA championships alongside Michael Jordan with the Chicago Bulls between 1991 and 1998, made clear he values team success over individual career mobility. Averaging 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game over his career while shooting 47.3% from the field, Pippen was named an All-Star seven times, made ten All-NBA teams, and earned ten All-Defensive selections.
LeBron James, who has won a total of four championships across the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, has long faced criticism from detractors who describe his team changes in pursuit of titles as "ring chasing." Pippen's comments are seen as adding to that longstanding criticism, with the emphasis placed on the fact that Pippen won all six of his championships with a single franchise, where he spent his entire career.
