In the opening round of the Süper Lig, Galatasaray faced Çorum FK at home and left the pitch with a 2-2 draw. Champions for the past four seasons, Galatasaray failed to start the campaign well, unexpectedly dropping points at Aslantepe.
In a goalless first half, Akgün picked up a yellow card in the 32nd minute. Galatasaray started the second half strongly, going ahead through an Osimhen goal in the 53rd minute. However, the lead did not last long. In the 59th minute, Çorum FK's Kyziridis equalised with a fine strike. The visitors then completely turned the match around, taking a 2-1 lead through Ramirez in the 61st minute.
After Kyziridis was sent off in the 70th minute, Çorum FK were reduced to ten men, but did not give up the fight despite this setback. Galatasaray, despite their numerical advantage and Osimhen's efforts, could not find the equaliser. The match ended 2-2.
During the game, the stands were seen showing serious backlash towards Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek and the club's management. The champions starting the season this way caused major disappointment among fans. Çorum FK, playing with ten men, took great heart from earning a point away from home.
