Shock for Real Madrid: Olise chooses Bayern

One of Real Madrid's most ambitious transfer plans of the summer window has hit an unexpected obstacle. According to Sky Germany, Michael Olise has told Bayern Munich's management that he wants to stay at the club; the Bavarian giants intend to offer him a new contract with an increased salary in return. This development represents a significant counterweight to our earlier report on Real Madrid's preparations for a record €190+33 million bid.

Bayern's contract plan is remarkably generous. According to Bild's head of football Christian Falk, the club intends to extend the French winger's contract — which currently runs until 2029 — to 2031, and to increase his salary from around €13.5-15 million to roughly €25 million, nearly doubling it. On top of that, a signing bonus of around €22 million is also reported to be on the table.

Falk's phrase summing up the move is striking: "If in trouble, make it double." This reflects a direct countermeasure to Real Madrid's plan for a €150 million bid, which Florentino Perez announced last month without naming the player.

The details of the process have also become clearer. According to Bild, Kicker has also confirmed that Bayern want to finalise this contract as soon as possible, particularly given that Olise deserves an upgrade following Jamal Musiala's salary increase; however, Kicker also notes that the player rejected an initial informal extension offer at the start of the year and has not yet clarified his position.

The player's performances more than justify this investment. Named Bundesliga Player of the Season last season after an extraordinary campaign of 22 goals and 31 assists in 52 matches across all competitions, Olise joined from Crystal Palace for around €50-60 million in 2024. It is also noted that Bayern have previously made clear they will not sell the player at any price this summer.
