The tennis world was rocked by devastating news from 23-year-old Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz. The world No. 2 and seven-time Grand Slam champion has announced he will not compete at Wimbledon 2026 due to his lingering wrist injury. Speaking via his social media accounts, Alcaraz said: "My recovery is going well and I'm feeling much better, but unfortunately I'm still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot."
Alcaraz suffered the injury to his right wrist on April 14 during a match at the Barcelona Open. Since then, the Spaniard has been forced to withdraw from the Madrid Open, Italian Open and the upcoming French Open. With Wimbledon now added to the list, Alcaraz becomes one of the few players to miss two consecutive Grand Slams this year — only the second such instance in his entire career.
The setback will also hurt the Spaniard in the rankings: he stands to lose 3,300 points combined from Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Meanwhile, his fiercest rival Jannik Sinner has captured six straight Masters 1000 titles, completing the "Career Golden Masters" feat and cementing his grip on the world No. 1 spot.
Alcaraz's Wimbledon legacy is one tennis fans will not forget: he won back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, defeating Novak Djokovic in both finals. In the 2025 final, however, he fell to Jannik Sinner in four sets, missing out on a historic three-peat. He started the current season by winning the Australian Open, becoming the youngest man ever to win all four major titles.
The Spanish star's focus now shifts to the US Open in late August — a tournament where he will defend his title and where the rest of his 2026 season hinges.
