Spain enter the race for Malang Sarr: Real Sociedad

Activity is increasing for one of the most attractive free-agent opportunities of the summer transfer window. According to Foot Mercato, Real Sociedad are trying to sign French defender Malang Sarr, a free agent since his contract with Lens expired this summer. Marseille are also reported to have made enquiries about the player.

The 27-year-old left-footed centre-back has just completed one of the brightest periods of his career. Enjoying an impressive season with Lens crowned by a Coupe de France triumph and regarded among Ligue 1's best defenders, Sarr became a free agent as of July 1 after not responding to the club's extension offer. A product of the Nice academy, Sarr's career journey has been full of ups and downs. Failing to find what he was looking for at Chelsea, whom he joined on a free transfer in 2020, the defender had loan spells at Porto and Monaco before signing for Lens in 2024 and putting his career back on track.
