Tari Eason files petition: seeks restraining order against ex

A legal development involving the personal life of one of Houston Rockets' young stars has come to light. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Tari Eason has filed for a domestic violence restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, 32-year-old Marilyn Maritza Melo Rodriguez.

The account of events described in the filing has also become clear. Eason alleges he drove Rodriguez home at her mother's request, after which an argument turned violent, with Rodriguez allegedly punching him in the face with a closed fist.

The allegations continue with a financial dimension. Eason further claims that after they parted, Rodriguez went to the Airbnb he was staying at and poured liquid bleach over roughly $92,000 worth of his designer clothing, ruining them.

The filing also contains serious threat allegations. It is alleged that a friend of Rodriguez's contacted Eason and threatened to "break both of his legs" and "kill him"; Eason reportedly told the court these alleged threats caused him to fear for his safety.

The scope of protection Eason is seeking from the court is also broad. He is asking a judge to order Rodriguez to stay away from him, his home, his workplace, his vehicle, and any arena in California where the Rockets may play.

The legal status of these allegations is also clearly stated. It is emphasised that the claims outlined in the filing have not yet been proven in court, and reflect only Eason's own account of events.

The player's career history also provides context for this story. Selected 17th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft and averaging 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game over his career, the 25-year-old signed a new contract with the Rockets last month.
