Tottenham have confirmed one of the summer's biggest transfers: Sandro Tonali has officially joined Spurs, announced with a "Benvenuto, Sandro" message. The deal is worth £92.5m plus £7.5m in achievable add-ons from Newcastle — a new club record — with Tonali set to earn more than £275,000 per week.
Tonali was emphatic about De Zerbi's role: "When I arrived at the Club today, it felt fantastic. People said about there being four or five clubs — there was only one." Despite interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, the 26-year-old Italian chose Roberto De Zerbi's project as the place to reignite his ambitions.
The arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Tonali take Spurs' spending through the £200m barrier this summer. The club also added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka on free transfers, and paid £52m for Jan Paul van Hecke. Tonali will wear the No. 16 shirt at Spurs.
Newcastle had signed Tonali from AC Milan for around €60m in 2023 and will pocket a significant profit on the deal. The transfer represents one of the most significant midfield acquisitions in the Premier League this window.
