DeMar DeRozan, waived by the Sacramento Kings on July 6, has become one of the most notable names still on the free agent market. The Kings parted ways with the veteran for financial reasons, with only $10 million of his $25.7 million salary guaranteed. Approaching his 37th birthday, DeRozan continued to produce last season, averaging 18.4 points on nearly 50 percent shooting across 77 games for Sacramento.
According to Clutch Points, four teams are currently in the race for DeRozan: the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets. The Heat are reportedly eyeing DeRozan as another scoring option alongside newly acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Cleveland sees him as a veteran scorer who could anchor their second unit off the bench. Golden State's interest is said to hinge partly on the outcome of their LeBron James pursuit, with the Warriors expected to turn to DeRozan more seriously if that deal falls through.
DeRozan's career averages sit at 21.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists, with three All-Star selections and 12 seasons averaging at least 20 points per game. The Los Angeles Clippers have also been linked, though the four teams named above are considered the frontrunners. With Sacramento still owing him $10 million, DeRozan is expected to be more open to a cheaper, veteran-minimum-style deal that maximizes his market value elsewhere.
