One of the NBA's most talked-about star duos has returned to the agenda with a new transfer scenario. According to ClutchPoints NBA reporter Brett Siegel, the Golden State Warriors are interested in reuniting Kevin Durant with Stephen Curry.
The club's long-term plan has also become clear. According to Siegel, Warriors owner Joe Lacob and the organisation have long maintained their goal of adding a star name alongside Curry in the later stages of his career; following the failure of their attempt to sign LeBron James this summer — with James choosing the Philadelphia 76ers — Durant is reported to be one of the names under consideration in this search.
There is a strong historical bond behind this scenario. Durant and Curry played together at Golden State between 2016 and 2019, winning two championships; however, Durant is recalled to have been cool on the idea of returning to the Warriors during the 2025 mid-season trade period, personally ending talks about a move back from the Suns to Golden State at the time.
It is now emphasised that the circumstances are different. There is reported to be uncertainty over the future of the 37-year-old Durant after his first season in Houston, with Siegel's earlier report pointing to a Durant-centred picture as the Rockets emerge as one of the teams that could "blow it up," reinforced by chemistry issues and injuries to veterans such as Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams.
The picture on Curry's side, meanwhile, is clear. According to Siegel, Curry wants to stay with the Warriors and will become eligible for a contract extension on August 6; the club is reported to be ready to present him with "a blank cheque and a blank contract" — that is, to give him whatever terms he wants.
The club's past attempts also underline this persistence. The Warriors are recalled to have been linked with many stars over the past two seasons besides Durant — including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis and Jaylen Brown — without completing any of those deals.
