The French football community is in deep mourning following the tragic death of 21-year-old Kenzo Kies, who played for the reserve team of the club Guingamp. Attempting to cool off during a period of intense heatwave across the country, the young player entered the Rhone River near Lyon, where he suffered a fatal drowning accident.
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene when the young athlete was swept away in the river while with his friends. While his three companions were successfully rescued by the teams, Kies was the last to be recovered from the water. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital and receiving intensive medical care, it was announced that he had suffered brain death and subsequently passed away.
Kies, who showed great potential, began his football journey in the academies of French giants Lyon and Saint-Etienne before joining Guingamp last summer. The club management expressed their profound sorrow over the loss and extended their deepest condolences to his family. The football world has been devastated by the loss of such a young talent with a bright future ahead of him.
