Formula 1's 2026 season continues to heat up after the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The young Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli still leads the championship on 156 points, but his advantage has been cut to 41 after the latest race.
Barcelona delivered a major moment: Lewis Hamilton claimed the 106th win of his career with Ferrari — his first victory for the Italian team. Making the most of a virtual safety car, Hamilton slashed 25 points off Antonelli's lead in one go. Antonelli, meanwhile, was running second with three laps to go when a Mercedes failure forced him out, handing the position to his team-mate George Russell.
With these results, Hamilton moved up to second on 115 points, while Russell is third on 106. Reigning world champion Lando Norris sits only fifth on 73 points. In the constructors' championship, Mercedes lead on 262 points, with Ferrari second on 190.

The first part of the season has seen Mercedes and Ferrari to the fore, while McLaren have fallen short of expectations. Max Verstappen is down in seventh, and the title fight is increasingly turning into a three-way battle between Antonelli, Hamilton and Russell. The drivers' next outing is the Austrian Grand Prix on 28 June. Whether Antonelli can protect his lead, and whether Hamilton can sustain his upturn with Ferrari, are among the biggest questions for the rest of the season.
