Fritz's edge at Wimbledon: Bublik falls in three

Court One at Wimbledon hosted one of Taylor Fritz's most one-sided victories of the tournament in the round of 16. The American star beat Alexander Bublik 7-6(1), 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 41 minutes to reach the quarterfinals, never looking remotely troubled throughout.

Fritz faced some unexpected resistance from Bublik in the first set, which went to a tie-break, but he gave his opponent almost no chance there, winning it 7-1. The gap widened further in the second and third sets, with the American closing out both 6-4 to seal the match.

The statistics lay bare Fritz's dominance: the American committed just 8 unforced errors compared with 19 for Bublik. Winning 89 per cent of points behind his first serve, Fritz was also far sharper on the break points, converting three of his four chances.

His quarterfinal opponent will come from the corresponding section of the draw. With this win, Fritz has once again proved himself one of the form players on grass this season. Having shown consistent performance throughout the tournament, the American is rated among the most serious contenders heading into the second week.
