The Formula 1 world has been shaken by a blood-freezing "Home-Jacking" (robbery by home invasion) incident suffered by four-time world champion Alain Prost (71), one of the greatest legends in sports history, at his home in Switzerland. The organized raid, which took place in the early hours of the morning at the ultra-luxury mansion located right on the shores of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) in Nyon, Switzerland, created a massive shockwave in the region known for its tranquility.
Masked Commando Gang Arriving at 08:30 AM
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning at around exactly 08:30 AM, just as the day was breaking. A professional criminal network consisting of several masked and heavily armed individuals entered the Prost family's villa by using force. In the raid, which took place while the legendary pilot Alain Prost and his family members were inside, the attackers immediately resorted to violence. During the scuffle with the gang members, the cold-blooded champion of the tracks, nicknamed "The Professor," was injured by receiving a blow to his head.
They Pointed a Gun at His Son and Made Him Open the Safe
The bloodthirsty attackers, who neutralized Alain Prost, gathered the other family members in a room and threatened them with death. It was understood in a short time that the main target of the gang was the hidden safe in the house. The attackers pointed a gun at one of Alain Prost’s sons, made a severe threat of violence, and forced him to open the family's main safe. The robbers, who filled all the valuable assets and cash inside the safe into sacks within minutes, quickly disappeared, leaving a great devastation behind them.
Was the Richard Mille Watch Collection Targeted?
Authorities have not yet shared the exact list and financial value of the items stolen from the safe with the public for the safety of the investigation. However, organized crime experts think that this operation was a pinpoint targeting. Alain Prost has a very close connection with Richard Mille, one of the most prestigious and million-dollar luxury watch brands in the world. In fact, the brand had released priceless, limited-edition watch collections specially designed for Prost in the past. It is considered highly likely that the gang came knowing the location of this priceless watch collection in the celebrity pilot's house.
Cross-Border Massive Manhunt Launched
Following the report of the incident, the Vaud (Waadt) cantonal police went on high alert. The area was blockaded by special operations teams, helicopters, search and rescue dogs, and crime scene investigation experts. It is estimated that the robbers, using the advantage of their location, might have escaped to neighboring France within minutes. For this reason, the Swiss police launched a cross-border extensive pursuit in cooperation with the French Gendarmerie and the Federal Customs Office.
Alain Prost, who was slightly injured in the head due to the scuffle he experienced and received medical intervention, has no life-threatening condition. However, due to this psychological terror suffered by the whole family, a special psychological support team (cellule de soutien) was dispatched to the house after the incident. It was learned that for safety and morale reasons, Alain Prost and his family left Switzerland and temporarily moved to their home in Dubai.
The dramatic increase in "Home-Jacking" crimes targeting billionaires and athletes recently in luxury residential areas near Lake Geneva has caused luxury security measures and border controls in the region to be opened to discussion once again.
