Italian's statement in the last 16: Cobolli reaches QF

Court One at Wimbledon hosted one of Flavio Cobolli's most dominant performances of the tournament in the last 16. Ninth seed Cobolli beat Alex De Minaur 7-5, 7-6(4), 6-3 in two hours and 35 minutes to reach the quarterfinals. Having ground out a gruelling five-set win over Khachanov in the previous round, the Italian made light work of this one, delivering his most complete performance of the fortnight.

The opening set was tightly contested, but Cobolli converted the one break chance that mattered to close it out 7-5. The second set followed a similar pattern and went to a tie-break, where the Italian again kept his composure, winning it 7-4 to move two sets clear. De Minaur's resistance finally broke in the third: Cobolli held serve throughout and closed out the match 6-3.

The statistics reflect the Italian's edge: both players struck 24 winners, but Cobolli was far more efficient on the return, converting six of his 18 break-point chances compared with De Minaur's four from seven.

A quarterfinalist on these courts last year, Cobolli has reaffirmed his grass-court credentials with this win. His quarterfinal opponent will come from the corresponding section of the draw.
