Excitement is at its peak ahead of the sprint race at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton took pole position in sprint qualifying held at the Silverstone circuit. Racing in his home country, the experienced driver earned the right to start the sprint race from the front with this result and sent the grandstands into raptures.
Hamilton finished sprint qualifying on top with a time of 1:28.376. The experienced driver claimed pole on the final lap, beating championship leader Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli by just 0.011 seconds. Antonelli, in second place, secured a front-row start.
Further down the order, four-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was third. While Hamilton's Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc was fourth, George Russell, who won last week's Austrian Grand Prix, was fifth. The front rows were decided by very close time margins.
This result was Hamilton's first pole position of the 2026 season. The experienced driver also claimed the third sprint pole of his career; he had won his previous two sprint poles at Silverstone (2021) and in China (2025). How the sprint race, which Hamilton will start from the front in front of his home crowd, will unfold will be followed with interest.
