Mercedes is intensifying its efforts to eliminate the performance and technical issues that have recently affected George Russell's car. The energy deployment problems first surfaced at Silverstone and became转换 drastically apparent at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps, causing the British driver to suffer a significant top-speed handicap on straightaways. During qualifying, his teammate Kimi Antonelli took pole position, whereas Russell was restricted to fourth place.

Initial investigations indicated that differences in driving style between the two drivers played a role. Consequently, Russell adjusted his throttle application and driving technique prior to Spa. However, despite these modifications, variations in energy distribution between the two cars persisted. Mercedes Deputy Technical Director Simone Resta emphasized that with only ten races completed under the 2026 technical regulations, fully understanding all parameters governing power delivery remains an ongoing challenge across the grid.

Furthermore, on the opening lap at Spa, a software flaw along the Kemmel Straight hit both Mercedes cars, causing them to reach their energy recovery limits prematurely and losing electrical boost. Stripped of acceleration, Russell lost ground to his rivals and was subsequently forced to retire after a collision with Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes is now focused on diagnosing the root causes before the Hungarian Grand Prix to ensure balanced and reliable performance for both drivers.
