Nick Kyrgios' new dream is becoming a pro basketballer

A surprising revelation has come from the Australian star, whose tennis future grows increasingly uncertain. Speaking on the Make Noise Podcast, Nick Kyrgios stated that one of his biggest goals after tennis is to play professional basketball: "I do want to play professional basketball at some stage. One of my next goals in my career is to play professionally at two sports; whenever my tennis journey is finished, playing professional basketball somewhere in Europe would be a goal of mine. I want to be one of those athletes that played professionally in two sports at a decent level."

This statement from the player, who turned 31 in April and has dropped several retirement hints in recent months, also brings attention to the uncertainty surrounding the final stage of his career. Earlier this month, he suggested that this past Wimbledon was likely his last, indicating he doesn't plan on competing anymore around this time next year.

Kyrgios' passion for basketball is nothing new. At Wimbledon 2015, he revealed that he had originally wanted to pursue basketball before his parents encouraged him to focus on tennis, believing he had much greater potential in that sport; it is also recalled that he is a co-owner of the South East Melbourne Phoenix franchise in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL).

Meanwhile, the player's current plans on the court also continue. Kyrgios is reported to be set to compete in doubles in Washington next week, teaming up with Frances Tiafoe.
