Noskova's two-set victory over Keys

Court One at Wimbledon hosted a composed performance from young Czech player Linda Noskova in the round of 16. Ninth seed Noskova beat Madison Keys 6-4, 7-6(2) in one hour and 34 minutes to reach the quarterfinals. Producing 21 winners, the young Czech stayed calmer than her American opponent in the crucial moments.

Noskova took the opening set 6-4 and carried that momentum into the second. Keys showed occasional signs of recovery as the set headed to a tie-break, but the Czech closed it out 7-2 to finish the match. The difference proved decisive on second-serve points, where Noskova won 60 per cent compared with just 47 per cent for Keys.

The statistics confirm Noskova's control of the contest: her American opponent committed 30 unforced errors, while the Czech kept her own tally to 18. Noskova was also sharper on the break points available, converting both of the two chances she created.

Her quarterfinal opponent will come from the corresponding section of the draw. With this win, Noskova has strengthened her Wimbledon credentials further. Having shown consistent form throughout the tournament, the young Czech is being tipped as a potential surprise package for the second week.
