Having fought back twice for a late 2-2 draw against the Netherlands in their opener, Japan had a far more comfortable 90 minutes this time. They started eagerly, soon took control and pushed onto the Tunisia defence to create chances. Stretching the lead with their goals, the Samurai Blue kept control after the break and not only protected the scoreline but extended their advantage.

For Tunisia, the expected positive impact of the pre-tournament managerial change did not materialise on the pitch. The side, under the new coach appointed after the 5-1 defeat to Sweden, again looked fragile at the back and found no answer to Japan's fluid attacking play. With this result, Tunisia suffered back-to-back heavy defeats, entering their toughest spell of the tournament and all but losing their hopes of advancing.

For Japan, the win carries great significance statistically as well as in sporting terms. In the expanded 48-team format, reaching four points all but removes the chance of group-stage elimination. With a draw and a comprehensive win to reach four points, Japan moved very close to reaching the knockout phase for a third successive tournament; they last failed to escape the group in 2014.

Throughout the game, Japan's disciplined, organised play showcased the team's collective strength alongside their individual talent. Having gone toe-to-toe with a tournament contender like the Netherlands, the Samurai Blue this time clearly demonstrated their quality against weaker opposition on paper and turned it into goals.

After these results, the Group F picture began to take shape. With the Netherlands — who had previously beaten Sweden's opponents — also beating Sweden 5-1 this round, the balance of power in the group shifted towards Japan and the Netherlands. Japan will focus on their final game to mathematically confirm progress and, if possible, push for top spot. Tunisia, in their last group match, will be chasing at least to salvage pride and enjoy their first moment of joy in the tournament.
